About the Board of Trustees
The thirteen-member Board of Trustees is the governing body for UNC Charlotte. Eight of its members are elected to four-year terms by the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina. Four are appointed by the Governor. President of the Student Body Joey Lemons also serves as an ex officio member. The Board elects its officers annually.
Longtime civic and business leader in Charlotte, Dr. Ruth G. Shaw now serves as the University's first woman chair of the Board. Dr. Shaw recently retired from Duke Energy and still serves as its executive advisor. Before joining Duke Energy, she was president of Centeral Piedmont community College for six years. Other Board officers are Norman R. Cohen, Vice Chair, and Eugene B. Johnson, Secretary.
